// FAQ
Is Limitr a payment gateway?
No, Limitr is not a payment gateway. We integrate with your existing payment processor (Stripe, LemonSqueezy, etc.) and act as a control plane that handles complex pricing policies, versioning, test evironmetns, and more with the flexibility to change your payment processor if needed.
Does Limitr support versioning?
Yes. Every pricing policy is versioned. You can roll back to any previous version from the dashboard without code changes. Version history is retained indefinitely on Growth and Enterprise plans.
Does Limitr support LLM cost calculation?
Yes. You can define input/output token costs per model, set blended pricing for multi-model workflows, and use Limitr's margin calculator to understand your cost-to-serve before setting customer prices. No more rough estimates.
What is policy-as-code?
Policy-as-code means your pricing rules are expressed as structured configuration files — not hardcoded in application logic. This lets you audit, version, review, and deploy pricing changes the same way you manage software. No SQL required, no billing engineer dependency.
What does metering mean in Limitr?
Metering is the process of measuring and recording how much of your product a customer uses — API calls, tokens, compute time, storage, or any custom unit you define. Limitr meters usage in real time and makes it available for billing, limits, and analytics.
How do usage limits work?
Limits are defined in your policy configuration. When a customer hits a limit, Limitr can: block further usage, trigger a soft cap with overage pricing, send an alert, or automatically prompt an upgrade flow. You choose the behaviour per tier.
What is a resource in Limitr?
A resource is any unit of value you want to meter and charge for. LLM tokens, API calls, GPU seconds, storage gigabytes, seats, documents processed — you define what a resource is for your product. Limitr measures it and enforces the pricing policy you attach to it.
